As part of the National Federation of Just Communities national conference in Buffalo this week, members on Wednesday took a daytrip to Lewiston. Their tour bus stopped at the Freedom Crossing Monument on Water Street, and they were greeted by Sally and Josiah Tryon (aka Eva Nicklas and Tim Henderson). The two Lewiston legends recounted tales of first coming to the village, efforts to lead people to freedom, and the story behind Susan Geissler’s famed bronze statue.
This visit was held in partnership with the Lewiston Council on the Arts.
Nicklas and Henderson retired from the LCA in 2022. She said they are enjoying a lighter schedule for sure, but sorely miss performing for the community – and relish opportunities like this one.
