Members of the Memorial Day committee recently gathered for a photo and a meeting. For the first time since 2019, the Memorial Day parade will return to Center Street in the Village of Lewiston. Following the procession, Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 will hold its annual observance ceremony at the `Circle of Honor` monument in Academy Park. VFW has plans in place for Memorial Day ceremony

Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 is preparing to again conduct its annual Memorial Day ceremony. This year will mark the return of the Memorial Day parade, thanks to the Memorial Day Remembrance Committee. The parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Monday, May 29, with the ceremony at the conclusion of the parade.

Our guest speaker will be Cmdr. Mark Kuperman, USCG Sector Buffalo – which includes the station at Fort Niagara. The honorary parade marshal will be the Hon. Michael J. Roemer, magistrate judge for the Western District of New York. Honored guests will include Jackie Sutherland and Joy Katib, to assist in the wreath ceremony at the monument.

The ceremony will also include students from Lewiston-Porter Intermediate School singing and signing a patriotic song, and the Boy Scouts from Troop 855 conducting the flag-folding ceremony for us. To close, the Hosilton Rangers will render a salute, and Simon Zawistowski will play taps.
