The Grand Island Golden Age Center, at 3278 Whitehaven Road, will host a flu shot clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11. The clinic is “a community event that’s open to the public right here on Grand Island,” explained Jen Menter, recreation supervisor of the center. The flu shots will be administered by Walgreen’s employees.
The vaccine being given is “the high dose flu shot that is available to anyone here in our community,” Menter said. She added that she is hoping to have the coronavirus bivalent booster shot “that has just recently been approved by the FDA.”
The booster is currently unavailable because, “Just as quick as the booster shot is brought in, it goes,” Menter said. “If I can get that booster shot, I will let everybody know as quick as possible by putting that information out there to the public. I am hopeful that we will be able to get the COVID booster shot that has just recently been approved by the FDA.”
People who wish to get flu shots are asked to call the center at 716-773-9682 to make an appointment. “All you have to do is to be sure to bring your ID, your health insurance card and your Medicare card, if you have one, to fill out the necessary paperwork before getting your flu shot vaccine,” Menter said, adding, “Pop in and make sure that you get your flu shot vaccine to protect yourself this flu season. Stop in and see all the great things we have going on. If you have any questions about any of the programs we have going on or any of the other great things we have going on here, from transportation to our home-cooked lunch program to Meals on Wheels or any other resources we have that we can offer to you or questions that we can answer for you, give us a call.”
