There is a new Center Street exit and entry into the Rite Aid plaza.
On Tuesday, the Village of Lewiston Department of Public Works switched the egress and ingress signs atop the Center Street Plaza. Motorists can now enter via the driveway next to the Lewiston Stone House and approaching Enchanted Florist. They will exit on the corner near the Orange Cat Coffee Co. and above the former HSBC Bank.
The Village Board approved the traffic pattern change in February. Mayor Anne Welch explained, “Because there’s a stone wall that comes out on the property next to (the plaza), it’s hard to see coming out across the sidewalk for pedestrians. We’re switching it back because the bushes are gone (on the Orange Cat side), and it’s just better, safetywise.”
This move was endorsed by Lewiston Police Department Chief Frank Previte.
DPW Superintendent Terry Brolinski said his crew couldn't switch the signs until the weather moderated.
Rite Aid is the largest tenant in the Center Street Plaza. Other businesses include Dollar General and Lewiston Village Pediatrics.
