For the third year, Veronica Connor Middle School social studies teacher Dawn Hayes and her students have sold poppies in the fall. This year’s sale took place prior to the second annual Veterans Parade.

This year, a total of $265 was raised and donated to the Eagle Scout project of Grand Island High School student Ryan Wellence, who is raising funds to buy seven park bench kits to be built and placed at the DeGlopper Memorial Park.

The American Legion is matching the donated funds, for a total of over $500. On Tuesday, Dec. 18, members of the American Legion and school representatives met to present the funds. The bench kits cost approximately $350 each. To donate to Wellence’s project, contact him by email at [email protected].
