Town of Lewiston Supervisor Steve Broderick and members of the Town Board, Village of Lewiston Mayor Anne Welch and trustees, Assemblyman Angelo Morinello and local business leaders joined together Saturday afternoon to officially open a new season of the Lewiston Family Ice Rink at Academy Park.
The venue is a holiday staple in the River Region. It will be open daily until the first week in January, with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas. The rink offers day and season passes, skate rentals and concessions inside a warming tent.
Town of Lewiston Parks Superintendent and Recreation Department Director Michael Dashineau said, "It's a fun event for the families. Usually Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon you get lots of families. Your older kids always come at night. It's a wide range of age groups that we're able to provide a fun community atmosphere for."
"We have all kinds of different special events every year," Dashineau said. "Our biggest event is our New Year's party - our kids countdown. 8 o'clock we drop something like 3,000 balloons on the kids. That's always a fun event."
