Fire company fundraiser to feature food, wines and more

Like fine wine, Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1's annual operational fundraising event just keeps getting better with age.
Plans are shaping up nicely for No. 1's Wine Tasting and Food Pairing, which is marking its fifth year. Open to the community, the event will run from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the banquet facilities of the firehall, 145 N. Sixth St.
"We are excited for another Wine Tasting and Pairing event at Lewiston No. 1 in conjunction with JCI Catering, one of our preferred caterers, and many of the Niagara Wine Trail wineries," Fire Co. President Matthew Grainge said.
He explained this enjoyable social evening continues to grow - both in popularity with an ever-increasing number of attendees, as well as in its food and beverage attractions.
Grainge pointed out that, in a period of just a few years, Lewiston No. 1 organizers have worked to enlist a growing list of contributors from throughout the River Region to help make this event a success. The event that pairs the offerings of No. 1 banquet caterer JCI Catering of Lewiston with the Niagara Wine Trail. It has grown to include some interesting craft beer fare from the Brickyard Brewing Company of Lewiston, complemented by tasty hors d'oeuvres and dessert samplings.
Niagara Wine Trail participants expected at this year's wine taste include the Leonard Oaks Estate Winery, Schulze Vineyards and Winery, and the Victorianbourg Wine Estate. Joining them, in addition to the Brickyard craft brews, will be Muscoreil's Fine Desserts of North Tonawanda.
"JCI Catering chef Jim and chef Christian Caccamise are excited to be working with the Niagara Wine Trail wineries again ... to create a food pairing to complement the flavor profile of their signature wine," said Dawn Caccamise, marketing manager for JCI Catering. "The Brickyard Brewing Company will be sampling their favorite brews paired with an hors d'oeuvre that enhances their signature beer. Muscoreil's Phil Sydoriak will be joining the event this year, sampling their cakes."
"We are proud to be participating in this fundraiser for the fifth year, which has grown in size each year," she added. "Make sure to mark your calendars to attend what is sure to be a great night, filled with unique wine and food."
Grainge said this event will also see local farm vendors LynOaken Farms of Medina and Three Sisters Garlic of Cambria attend with a variety of their fall offerings. A silent auction and 50/50 draw will also be featured. Entertainment will again be the sounds of Lewiston Music.
Grainge said the Brickyard will also furnish the glassware, donated by the brewmaker and complimentary for every attendee to this year's affair.

"This fundraiser helps Lewiston No. 1 to continue to provide emergency medical services to our community, free of charge, when every second counts," Grainge said.
Tickets for the fifth annual Wine Tasting and Food Pairing are priced at $25 pre-sale or $30 the night of the affair. Tickets are on sale in the village at Brickyard Brewing Company, the Orange Cat Coffee Co. and Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1.
"I would like to invite our community to come out for a nice night, filled with great wine, craft beer, food and more," Grainge said.
"This event is one of our biggest; it gives us a chance to interact with the community in a way that normally we would not," said Keith Parmer, who serves as director of Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1. "Being first-responders, we see people during some of the worst times of their life. The Wine Tasting is one of the few times that we get to interact with the community under different circumstances, and seeing the support our community has for the fire company."
