Lewiston-Porter: Peach Queen Jamie Hagerty lends voice to 'One District, One Book'

Wed, Jan 31st 2018 09:10 am
A group of about 80 Lewiston-Porter elementary students received a special surprise Tuesday morning when reigning Peach Queen Jamie Hagerty visited to read the second chapter of "The Mouse and the Motorcycle."
Lew-Port families are reading the story as part of the "One District, One Book" initiative. Each student at the Primary Education Center and Intermediate Education Center received a copy of the book.
Parent and "One District, One Book" spokeswoman Julie Donnelley said, "This is the first official kickoff week for 'ODOB' following the reveal of the winning book 'The Mouse and the Motorcycle' by famed children's author Beverly Cleary. Two chapters are unveiled per week. Students and families can logon to the Lew-Port website to access 'ODOB' (www.lew-port.com). Each week, two new chapter readers will be revealed, and families can follow along to the recorded chapter reading.
"The chapter readers will consist of community members, teachers and administrators. Watch for Jamie in Chapter 12."
"One District, One Book" will culminate with a family celebration night on March 16.
"The community will again be invited to share in on several activities and celebrate as our students and families embrace reading through 'One District, One Book,' " Donnelley said.
Hagerty read to a mixed-age group of students - grades one through three - who are taught within a Primary Education Center multiage course. At the PEC, four core teachers teach these students in four classrooms.
