The Miracle League of Western New York kicked off its fourth year at Veterans Park on Grand Island June 7 with its biggest opening day ever.
Now in its fourth year of existence, the Miracle League drew hundreds of players and supporters to the adapted rubberized diamond off Bedell Road Sunday afternoon.
Before the throwing out of the ceremonial first pitch, League President R.J. Wynne thanked sponsors and supporters for donations that make the league more affordable for its players.
"We appreciate the continued generosity of many WNY businesses, individuals and families. This continued support will allow the Miracle League to expand and allow for more individuals to participate," said Scott McManigle, executive director of the The Miracle League of Western New York.
The opening day was delayed a week because of rain.
The league, which helps disabled children and adults play baseball, will celebrate Law Enforcement Day June 13 at 1:30 p.m. Members of law enforcement groups will take the field with the Miracle Leaguers and support them on the basepaths and in the field. (Photos by Larry Austin)
