Despite rough, rainy weather last weekend, the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Greater Niagara was deemed a successful event, with $46,386.05 raised. Held Saturday, May 30, to Sunday, May 31, at Reservoir State Park, this year's Relay, a restructured event that combined forces from Lewiston, Niagara Falls and adjoining areas, saw 44 teams and 280 participants involved.
Sponsored by Time Warner Cable News Services, Northern Custom Services and Guard Contracting Corp., top participants were ParMed Pharmaceuticals, $3,787.25; Pamela Barber, $2,984; and Cheryl Martin, $1,250. Top teams included Team Hope, $5,707.78; GCC 29 & Holding, $5,100; and Ashley's Angels and Lorrie's Clouds of Hope, $4,652.75.
