Wheatfield resident Tom Stevenson announced he will run for a seat on the Town Board in November, when both councilmen Larry Helwig's and Gil Doucet's seats will be up for election.
"With this present board we have, we've ended up with Quasar, we've got subdivisions built in areas where people are flooded out," he said. "It's time that somebody did something for the people instead of for themselves."
Stevenson, owner of Stevenson Construction, said he "like(s) to stay involved" in the community, where he was previously president of the Wheatfield Business Association and served on the town's economic advisory and picnic committees. He is currently on the board of nonprofit Drive Against Diabetes.
Stevenson said he will run as a Democrat and seek endorsements from town and county Democratic committees. This is his first bid for political office.
"I just think it's time," he said. "I hope the people feel that way and will give me the ropes."
