On Friday, the Niagara USA Chamber announced its award winners for the Chamber Honors Gala on March 22. Honorees include Nik Wallenda, the Rev. Joseph Levesque, Dr. James Klyczek, Certo Brothers and Timothy Mulvey of Mulvey Construction. Wallenda will also serve as keynote speaker for the event.
"We are honoring Nik Wallenda with our Visionary Award because he had a dream to make a once-in-a-lifetime wire walk across Niagara Falls, and he followed through on his dream to the delight of people all over the world," said Deanna Alterio Brennen, the chamber's president and CEO. "We look forward to not only hearing his about that history-making event, but how Niagara Falls might factor into his future plans as well."
Levesque, president of Niagara University, will also be honored as he steps down from his post after 13 years of service. Levesque has served on the chamber board during his entire tenure at Niagara, and was instrumental in helping bring Niagara County's leading business organizations together in a county-wide chamber.
Levesque will receive the Community Advocate Award for his service not only to the university, but his dedication to this region. The chamber will also be honoring Levesque in one other way: the Community Advocate Award will be renamed the Father Joseph Levesque Award for Community Advocacy.
Klyczek, president of Niagara County Community College, will receive the Chairman's Award. He is being recognized for leadership and dedication in making the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute a reality. The institute is already ahead of projections and is recognized as a linchpin to a rejuvenated downtown Niagara Falls.
"Niagara University and NCCC are two of Niagara County's most important institutions led by two dynamic, accomplished leaders," Brennen said. "Father Levesque and Dr. Klyczek have also been integral to the success of our chamber and we are thrilled to honor both of them."
Also honored at the Gala will be Certo Brothers Distributing as Business of the Year, and Timothy Mulvey of Mulvey Construction as Business Person of the Year.
"The Business and Business Person of the Year awards are derived from the nominations of chamber members," Brennen said. "We had a tremendous number of great nominations this year, but none stood out like Certo Brothers and Timothy Mulvey. They represent the best of our local business community."
