The Margaret L. Wendt Foundation press release

The Margaret L. Wendt Foundation, a philanthropic leader in the Buffalo community, has announced a generous grant of $50,000 to support The Salvation Army’s Hope on Main emergency shelter project. This significant investment will assist The Salvation Army with replacing its family shelter with a new, modern, safe facility for the care of families experiencing homelessness.

The Salvation Army is in the process of constructing the new, three-story, 80-bed emergency family shelter at 954 Main St. The new shelter is located on a separate parcel of The Salvation Army’s Buffalo campus (960 Main St.), so there has been no displacement of families served by the current shelter during construction. The new shelter is approximately 50% complete with a targeted opening date of August/September.

“We extend our sincere thanks to the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation for their generous support of phase 1, the Hope on Main family shelter” said Maj. Annette Lock, director of The Salvation Army. “Their investment is helping to establish a strong foundation for this project, ensuring that families in our community have access to safe shelter and compassionate care.”

The Margaret L. Wendt Foundation is a private, grant-making entity founded in 1956 and dedicated to charitable and public-service purposes in the Western New York area.
