United Way of Greater Niagara (UWGN) announces the appointment of North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec as the new chairman of the board of directors, and Denise Abbott as the new vice chair – ushering in a new phase of leadership as the organization continues its mission to strengthen youth development across the greater Niagara Region.

Tylec, who previously served as vice chair, brings a long-standing commitment to community service and a strong record of public leadership. In his new role, Tylec will help guide United Way’s strategic direction, deepen community partnerships, and support initiatives that advance youth-focused programs throughout Niagara County.

Stepping into the role of vice chair, Abbott brings extensive leadership experience across both the labor movement and the healthcare sector. Abbott currently serves as president of the WNY Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, and has worked as a registered nurse for more than 20 years. A member of the UWGN board since 2024, she has been a key contributor to the agency’s annual campaign, serving as co-chair for several years.

“We are grateful for the passion and expertise that both Mayor Tylec and Denise bring to our Board,” said Andrea Gray, UWGN president and CEO. “Their leadership will be instrumental as we continue to grow and respond to the evolving needs of our community.”

United Way of Greater Niagara extends its appreciation to outgoing board chair Rachel Brennan for her dedicated nine years of service and leadership.

United Way of Greater Niagara believes Greater Niagara is a vibrant region where our youth can achieve their full potential through programs and services that address their most critical needs. Our mission is to invest in youth programs that positively impact social, emotional and mental development to support our community today and strengthen it for tomorrow.
