Jack Hanrahan believed in hard work, steady hands, and showing up for your community. He grew up bagging potatoes for 5 cents a sack and stocking grocery shelves after school. By age 10, he was helping rebuild car engines. He didn’t come from privilege – but he came from grit, heart, and a deep belief in doing what’s right.
To honor that legacy, the Jack Hanrahan Memorial Scholarship has been established for students who are ready to get to work – not just for themselves, but for others. This scholarship isn’t about test scores or perfect resumes. It’s about potential, not perfection. It will support students entering trade schools – young people who love working with their hands, care about their communities, and want to build lives they’re proud of.
Jack dedicated decades to the Lewiston Kiwanis Club and to serving others in quiet, consistent ways. In that same spirit, we invite the community to join us in celebrating his life on Saturday, April 26, from 2-6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 505 Cayuga St., Lewiston. There will be stories, laughter, refreshments, and military honors.
If you’d like to participate in honoring Jack, contribute refreshments or support the scholarship fund, please reach out to us at [email protected].
Jack never hesitated to ask for help when it meant supporting the community – so we’re proud to keep asking on his behalf.
