On Wednesday, April 9, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Carnegie Art Center (240 Goundry St., North Tonawanda), there will be a second public meeting covering key findings from existing conditions analysis, overview of feedback from the first meeting, draft purpose and needs statement, as well as initial concepts to improve TMCH and Division Street.
From 6-7 p.m., we will review information about the study, meet the study team, and share feedback.
“Public meetings are critical to gauge resident interest, opinion and valuable insight. The future of TCMH in North Tonawanda will be directly impacted by our community members,” North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec said.
More about the study:
The City of North Tonawanda began a planning study in May of 2024 to examine the redesign of the approximately 1.2-mile stretch of the Twin Cities Memorial Highway (New York State Route 425) and a 1.1-mile stretch of the adjacent Division Street. This study was initiated due to aging infrastructure and deficiencies along this segment of the Twin Cities Memorial Highway. At the public meeting No. 1, in September of 2024, residents voiced concerns regarding:
√ Light timing
√ Number of lights
√ Drivers not following road signs (speed limit signs, no turn on red, etc.)
√ Confusion entering and exiting Division Street
√ Dangerous merge before Leonhardt Street
Residents also described the current state of TCMH as dangerous, confusing, frustrating and annoying. In a second meeting this Wednesday, we will discuss the following observations and possible traffic calming measures to mitigate these issues. Please join us to share your feedback with the project team on concepts to improve Twin City Memorial Highway.
If you cannot attend, the meeting will be recorded and available for viewing online at tcmhforward.com.
