Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s fifth annual IceCycle fundraising event, presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and the West Herr Automotive Group, has come to a close. The event, which took place at Buffalo RiverWorks, raised $735,000 for cancer research and patient-care programs.
More than 1,400 participants took part in their choice of nine 45-minute cycling sessions on the ice led by instructors from studios across Western New York. IceCycle also introduced a theme ride in 2025, “In Our Swiftie Era,” which sold out within a few weeks of registration opening.
Studios participating in IceCycle included Catalyst, Hype, Jada Blitz, Rebel Ride, Revolution Buffalo, Rise Fitness Studio and Spark Fitness. Participants each committed to raising at least $200 for the cause. Riders who took more than one session committed to raising at least $400.
“The IceCycle community continues to amaze me each year,” said Mackenzie Giancarlo, assistant director of event fundraising at the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation. “On our fifth anniversary, we hit a new fundraising record and had an amazing time while doing it. You truly have to experience this event to understand its magic. I am so proud to be a part of IceCycle, and I’m incredibly grateful to participants, volunteers and donors who support our mission.”
Participants were reminded of the mission in many ways throughout the weekend, including a victory bell on the ice. In each session, a patient or survivor rang the bell, which created incredibly impactful moments during the event.
IceCycle also introduced “Fitness Off the Ice” this year, which allowed participants, family members and friends to take free exercise classes inside RiverWorks throughout the event.
Members of the public also enjoyed the return of “Vendor Village,” with booths from several local businesses.
“Pulling off an event like IceCycle takes the hard work and dedication of thousands of people: our riders, volunteers, donors and sponsors,” said Bill Loecher, IceCycle founder. “Each year, this event gets bigger and better … and of course, more impactful. Through IceCycle, we are truly changing lives for cancer patients and helping fuel the next great breakthrough at Roswell Park.”
Since its first event in 2021, the IceCycle community has raised more than $2.5 million for cancer research and patient care programs at Roswell Park.
IceCycle offered nine cycling sessions on March 7-8. Next year’s event will take place March 6-7 at Buffalo RiverWorks.
