Niagara Arts and Cultural Center Press Release

The Niagara Arts and Cultural Center (NACC) announces the launch of a new community arts program designed to welcome those experiencing memory loss, their caregivers, partners and family, to find joyful respite opportunities, and to build community while enjoying a variety of arts experiences.

The NACC Memory Café “Meet Me at the Art Gallery” (MMAG) sessions will last approximately one hour and include live music, and an open art gallery with refreshments. Memory Café participants can experience and respond to music and works of art.

Two kinds of programs will be offered:

•“Musical Mixers”: Conversation, community-building, live music, and art-making opportunities.

•“Artful Storytelling”: Enjoy an afternoon of creative storytelling inspired by artwork on display in the gallery.

“Meet Me at the Art Gallery” will be hosted every second Wednesday and third Saturday of the month, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the NACC, 1201 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls.

The program debuts March 12.

Individuals and groups are welcome.

Please consider registering in advance, as space is limited – and it helps us plan for refreshments! Email [email protected] or call 716-282-7530, Ext. 104.

Admission is free, thanks to a generous grant from the Boston Foundation. However, to help keep the program going, donations are gladly accepted.

There are several parking options within a short walk to the NACC, including a Portage Road handicap lot.

The red door on Portage Road is handicap accessible. Events for Memory Café take place on the first floor. A family-style restroom is located across from the reception desk. An elevator is available for those wishing to further explore the building.

Manual wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis from the reception desk in the main lobby.

Memory cafés are welcoming social gatherings for people living with changes in their memory or thinking, and the people who care about them. They are a place to have fun together, talk with others who understand what you’re going through, and to try something new.
