Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Press Release
Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center announced the addition of Mark Campbell as the newest coach for its Program to Encourage Active and Rewarding Lives (PEARLS). Campbell brings a diverse background and a deep commitment to supporting older adults on their path to improved mental well-being.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force’s 102nd Tactical Air Command, Campbell’s career spans multiple industries. He spent 20 years as a small business owner operating bookstores in five states; six years as a manager at Home Depot in Florida; and 10 years as an educator. His wide-ranging experience and dedication to community service make him a valuable addition to the PEARLS program and those it serves.
The PEARLS program offers free in-home counseling for individuals 62 and older who may be experiencing depression due to life changes such as loss of loved ones, independence, or physical health. The program provides structured, one-on-one coaching sessions that help participants address symptoms of depression through problem-solving techniques, social and physical activation, and pleasant activity scheduling.
Since its inception in January 2023, PEARLS has enrolled 73 participants, with 38 completing the program. Data collected from participants show a 32% reduction in major depression symptoms and a 47% reduction in minor depression symptoms, along with a 45% increase in both social and physical activity and a 32% boost in pleasant activities.
The program continues to be an essential resource for aging individuals in Niagara Falls and surrounding communities, offering support to those facing challenges related to poverty, isolation, and chronic illness.
With Campbell now on board as a PEARLS coach, NFMMC remains committed to empowering older adults to lead more active and fulfilling lives.
