Community leader, small business owner, and dedicated public servant Gabbie Richards has officially announced her candidacy for North Tonawanda City Council in the 1st Ward.
With a strong track record of civic engagement, financial stewardship and economic revitalization, Richards is committed to fostering a more-connected, prosperous and thriving North Tonawanda.
"As a lifelong resident, business owner and mother, I am deeply invested in the future of North Tonawanda," Richards said. "I’ve spent years working to improve our community – whether through revitalizing Oliver Street, advocating for smart financial planning, or serving on the school board. Now, I’m ready to bring that experience to the city government to ensure we are making strategic, community-focused decisions that benefit all residents."
Richards has been a driving force in the revitalization of Oliver Street, serving as president of the Oliver Street Merchants Association, running her small business (The Vegan Grocery Store) on the street, and assisting in securing over $1.5 million in grant funding for infrastructure improvements. She has played a key role in North Tonawanda’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative, the comprehensive plan, and Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan efforts.
As a six-year member of the North Tonawanda School Board, Richards has demonstrated a commitment to fiscal responsibility and policy-making that prioritizes social-emotional learning, mental health, and inclusion.
Richards' campaign focuses on key priorities aimed at strengthening North Tonawanda. With years of experience in governance, budget oversight and community engagement, she is ready to bring her expertise to City Council. She is committed to responsible financial management, ensuring the city’s resources are used effectively while securing funding for long-term sustainability.
She will also advocate for improved public transportation and infrastructure, making the city more walkable and accessible for all residents. Additionally, Richards prioritizes strengthening community connections through beautification efforts, public safety investments, and local governance that listens to and supports its residents.
Richards’ passion for North Tonawanda is reflected in her hands-on approach, from renovating historically underutilized buildings to advocating for policies that protect and uplift all residents. She believes that, by working together, the city can continue to grow in a way that benefits families, businesses and future generations.
"I’m running for City Council because I believe in North Tonawanda and its potential. I want to ensure we are making smart, forward-thinking decisions that build a stronger, more vibrant community," Richards said. "I look forward to connecting with residents throughout this campaign, hearing their concerns, and working together to create meaningful change."
