Assistant Principal, St. Stephen School
On Thursday, Nov. 21, we were blessed with a surprise visit from the Education Foundation of the diocese and the Education Department. They came for a special visit to award our principal, Mrs. Lynn Ortiz, with the Distinguished Principal Award for the diocese, in a special assembly in which all our students, faculty, staff, Mrs. Ortiz, her family, and our parish staff were able to join in on this momentous presentation.
This was the presentation speech used to make the announcement.
“Ms. Ortiz exemplifies Catholic values through her dedication to faith, regularly attending Mass and collaborating with Father Martin to ensure students experience the sacraments. Her empathetic leadership is evident in her commitment to students’ well-being, personally securing mental health counseling for those in need.
“As a respectful listener, Lynn fosters a culture of openness and respect within the school community. She supports STREAM initiatives, creating an enriched learning environment with facilities like a greenhouse and outdoor classroom.
“To improve communication, she introduced the ‘Principal Peek at the Week’ newsletter, engaging teachers and maintaining an open-door policy. Lynn collaborates with Grand Island Schools, expanding UPK programs and securing resources for our school.
“She actively participates in professional development, empowering her assistant principal in assessment leadership and supporting teacher leadership in curriculum areas. Her unwavering faith and dedication shine through in her commitment to Catholic education and community growth.
“As well, Mrs. Ortiz is also a dedicated parishioner, leading the school and always working with the parish. A dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother!
“We are so very proud of you Mrs. Ortiz. we cannot thank you enough for all you do for so many.”
