Dr. Karen Kwandrans has been promoted to the position of vice president for government and community relations at Niagara University.
Kwandrans, who joined NU in 2021, previously served as the institution’s associate vice president of strategic and external relations, overseeing the Levesque Institute, the university’s community outreach arm, and the office of sponsored programs. In her expanded role, she will also serve as the university’s bridge between local, state and federal governments, advocating for policies that enhance the educational, research, and service missions of the university.
“Karen has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, a deep commitment to fostering positive relationships, and a strong passion for advocating on behalf of Niagara University,” said the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., NU president. “I am confident that Karen’s experience and vision will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our ties with government officials and elevate the university’s standing as a leader in higher education and a vital resource for the public good.”
Kwandrans holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University at Buffalo, a master’s degree in education from Buffalo State University, and a doctorate in educational leadership from St. John Fisher College. She is a member of the Niagara USA Chamber board, the Niagara County comprehensive economic development strategy committee, and the Local Waterfront Revitalization Committee.
