Niagara Arts and Cultural Center Press Release & Photos

The Niagara Arts and Cultural Center is proud to announce this year's annual “Artists of Color” art exhibition, “Women of Colors,” will feature female artists.

The annual art exhibit was founded in 2009 by NACC gallery director and artist Reggie Ray Robertson. It features works in all artistic mediums by regional artists, inspired by the African American experience from the historical, contemporary and personal perspective.

Conceived as an opportunity for mentorship, each year emerging artists are invited to show along with established artists. They are shown how to prepare their work for exhibition.

This year will feature work from 20-plus members of the WNY African American female artist community and will be guest-curated by Ari Moore, Doretha Edwards and Jessica Thorpe.

Participating artists include: Valaria Cray, Doretha Edwards, Leensha Eve, Robin Flowers-Quinniey, Betty Pitts Foster, Bree Gilliam, Iris M. Kirkwood, Legend Lewis, Julia Lowery, Bianca McGraw, Ari Moore, Cheyanne Myers, Edna Overton, Sandra Ray, Rosetta Smith, Phyllis L. Thompson, Jessica Thorpe and Princessa Williams.

An opening reception is set for 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, featuring live music, light refreshments from Betty's Cafe on Pine, and an artisan market. Artist and curator’s remarks follow at 5 p.m.
