Wednesday, Jan. 8, is National Take the Stairs Day, and the American Lung Association in Buffalo is challenging people to take the stairs for clean air and healthy lungs!

A practice Fight For Air Climb stair-climbing event will be held at Seneca One Tower from 4:30-6:30 p.m. – where participants can choose to climb up to 691 steps to the top of the building. The event will also coincide with the happy hour “Flights” fundraiser happening at RiverWorks from 4-7 p.m. Both practice climb and happy hour funds will go to supporting the official Fight For Air Climb Buffalo in April. No registration is required.

National Take the Stairs Day is an annual observance on the second Wednesday of January that gives Americans an opportunity to adopt healthy routines like taking the stairs. Stair climbing is a great way to burn calories, but is also a simple way to improve your overall health.

In honor of the new year and National Take the Stairs Day, the American Lung Association is offering a discounted registration for its 2025 Fight For Air Climbs available from Jan. 8 through 12. Use code STAIR10 when registering online.

“Starting the new year with healthier habits is a goal for many, and National Take the Stairs Day is the perfect way to get moving while giving your lungs a boost! We’re also excited to invite Buffalo residents to take their commitment one step further by joining us at Seneca One Tower for this year’s Fight For Air Climb on April 5,” said Kaelyn Gates, senior director for the Lung Association.

During the Fight For Air Climb Buffalo, participants will climb 691 stairs at Seneca One Tower.

Joining the Fight For Air Climb supports the work of the Lung Association to defeat lung cancer, champion clean air for all, improve the quality of life for those living with lung disease and their families, and create a tobacco-free future. Hundreds of local residents, including more than 200 local firefighters and competing local fire departments – who will practice with over 50 pounds of firefighting gear on, come together for this fun and exciting event!
