On Christmas, the Buffalo City Mission held its annual “Hambone Express” delivery program. One hundred and fifty volunteering families gathered at the Alfiero Family Center of Hope and Promise to deliver more than 3,300 hot meals to those facing homelessness and poverty across Western New York.

“Each holiday season, we are filled with immense gratitude for the incredible volunteers who sacrifice time with their families to uplift those in need. Their compassion and generosity embody the true spirit of the City of Good Neighbors,” said Aubrey Calhoun, executive director and CEO of the Buffalo City Mission.

Starting early on Christmas Day, more than 150 volunteering individuals and families helped the Buffalo City Mission deliver warm holiday meals consisting of a ham dinner with all the fixings, and Christmas cookies for dessert, to underprivileged families, homebound individuals and elderly neighbors from Lockport to Angola – totaling more than 900 homes.

“The ‘Hambone Express’ continues to be a beacon of hope in our community,” Calhoun said. “The season of giving reminds us of the power of compassion, connection and selflessness. We are deeply grateful to our volunteers, whose dedication and generosity have brought comfort and nourishment to so many in need this holiday season.”
