Catholic Health Press Release
Two musicians recently visited Kenmore Mercy’s intensive care unit to play soothing music for patients. It is part of an ICU nurse’s music therapy research project on how music benefits critically ill patients.
Amy Scozzaro, RN, CCRN, is an ICU nurse at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Through her research, she found that soft music is associated with a reduced need for sedative drugs, reduced perception of pain, and reduced anxiety in patients.
She invited two musicians, Elliot Scozzaro and Stephen Parisi, to play smooth jazz music to patients and their families in the ICU. They also played for other nursing units in the hospital.
