Kenmore Mercy Hospital was named a Top General Hospital by the Leapfrog Group, a national industry watchdog organization that collects and reports safety data for hospitals across the country to help consumers make more informed health care decisions. The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards American hospitals can receive.

“We are extremely proud of our entire care team at Kenmore Mercy, who have consistently shown their dedication to the health and safety of the patients we care for,” Kenmore Mercy Hospital President Walt Ludwig said. “We are honored to once again be named a Top General Hospital, and to have these efforts recognized by The Leapfrog Group.”

Nearly 2,400 hospitals were considered for Leapfrog’s Top Hospitals award. Kenmore Mercy was one of only 36 hospitals in the country – and one of two in New York state – to receive the Top General Hospital award. A total of 134 Top Hospitals were named in the following categories: 36 Top General Hospitals, 75 Top Teaching Hospitals, 15 Top Rural Hospitals and 8 Top Children’s Hospitals.

This recognition follows Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grade Report released last month. In the fall report, Kenmore Mercy received its 22nd consecutive “A” Safety Grade, making it one of only 26 hospitals in the country – and the only one in New York state – to earn this distinction.

“Protecting patients from preventable harm is central to The Leapfrog Group’s mission,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Kenmore Mercy has set the standard for patient safety, earning the prestigious distinction of a Top Hospital. This elite honor reflects the exceptional efforts of the entire team and places Kenmore Mercy among the nation’s elite in health care.”

To qualify for this distinction, hospitals must achieve top performance in their category on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety.
