Lewiston-Porter Central School District Press Release
On Friday, Dec. 6, Lewiston-Porter Middle School and High School will conduct a coordinated active-shooter drill in collaboration with law enforcement and emergency medical services. This critical training exercise, the first full-scale active-shooter drill at Lewiston-Porter since the COVID-19 pandemic, will take place at the following times:
√ High school: 9-10:30 a.m.
√ Middle school: 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
The drill, involving school staff role-playing as victims and other key participants, is a comprehensive effort led by the Lewiston-Porter administration, in coordination with the Lewiston Police Department, school resource officers, New York State Police, Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Border Patrol.
Enhanced technology and protocol
This exercise reflects the district’s commitment to ensuring safety and preparedness, incorporating new technology, updated protocols, and the expertise of newly assigned officers. The involvement of emergency medical services will further enhance coordination between agencies in managing incident response.
Critical training opportunity
“Given the rising threats faced by schools nationwide, these trainings are critical to ensuring that our staff and first responders are well-prepared for any emergency,” said Paul Casseri, superintendent of the Lewiston-Porter Central School District. “This is a proactive measure to protect our school community and improve our coordinated response efforts.”
The schools will not be in session during the drill, as the date coincides with a superintendent's conference day. Participation will be limited to adult staff members.
