The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens has filled its calendar with magical holiday experiences that will create unforgettable memories and bring holiday joy to all. Whether it’s a family activity or a date night, the seasonal plants and lights are a perfect way to make the most of this holiday season in the warmth of the conservatory.
The poinsettia exhibit returns as a holiday favorite that has become an annual traditional for many in the Buffalo area. This year, the poinsettia collection features hundreds of bold, bright colors in deep reds and whites, as well as unique bright yellows, deep pinks, and even autumn leaf colors to complement the traditional varieties that you won’t see at the stores. Step into the warm embrace of the tropical conservatory, filled to the brim with pretty poinsettias of all sizes and colors. The exhibit opens Friday, Nov. 22, and is on display daily through Jan. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special holiday hours are posted for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas day and New Year's Eve. The Poinsettia Exhibit is included with regular admission.
Make the most of your visit to the poinsettia exhibit during their brand-new gift shopping experience, Cozy Crafters Artisan Market. The holidays are just around the corner, and there’s no better place to start holiday shopping than at this market. Step into the enchanting wonderland filled with dozens of local artisan vendors surrounded by twinkling lights and hundreds of vibrant poinsettias. Indulge in seasonal delights and sip on delicious beverages while shopping for the perfect hand-made gift. This special shopping experience will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7-8. The full list of vendors is available at buffalogardens.com.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience the poinsettia exhibit at night during “Poinsettias After Dark.” Thousands of twinkling lights will guide guests through the magically illuminated greenhouses accompanied by joyful holiday tunes. This is a perfect way to relax and unwind during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. This after-hours event will be taking place on select nights from 5-9 p.m. Nov. 29-30 and Dec. 6-7, 14, 20-21, 26-30. Tickets are available. Botanical Gardens members are admitted free, but must have a ticket.
Santa Claus is coming to town and families won't want to miss this opportunity to snap the perfect holiday family photo. Santa will be at the Botanical Gardens for the first time ever during “Poinsettias After Dark” from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29. He will also be on site the following day from 10 a.m. until 2 pm. Visitors can explore the poinsettia exhibit, soak in the holiday cheer, and take their own photos with Santa for no additional charge. Organizers recommend getting tickets ahead of time, as this event is expected to sell out quickly for both dates.
To make the most of the “Poinsettias After Dark” experience, visitors over 21 can indulge in the return of “Thurs-Date Nights” at the Botanical Gardens for the most romantic rendition of the series yet. Grab a glass of wine and put on your holiday best for an evening of plants, lights, drinks, charcuterie and chocolate for the ultimate wintertime date night. Stroll through the Botanical Gardens to enjoy the exhibit with an intimate, romantic setting with that special someone or some friends. Tickets include one glass of wine or beer from the Bubble Bar with a cash bar following, cheese and charcuterie from The Grazeful Gatherer, and chocolate from Dark Forest Chocolates. “Thurs-Date Nights” are happening Dec. 12 and 19 from 6-9 p.m. Prepurchased tickets are required and can be reserved at buffalogardens.com.
Looking to learn something new this holiday season? Learn how to create a fresh conifer wreath at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. A wire wreath form, paddle wire and fresh materials are provided in this workshop. Tickets are available and preregistration is required. A winter floral arrangement workshop will also be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m. Bring the scents and colors of the winter season home with this floral design workshop. Discover how to prepare fresh materials for a floral arrangement, basic design elements, as well as how to keep the arrangement looking fresh. All floral materials and supplies will be provided and preregistration is required.
Don’t forget to bring toys for kids in need as the Botanical Gardens is a designated Toys for Tots drop-off location again this year. Visitors are encouraged to bring a new toy or book during their visit to any of these events or exhibits. The drop box will be available during the poinsettia exhibit from Nov. 22-Dec. 14.
