The Salvation Army is deploying teams in response to the recent category 4 hurricanes in the southern states.
Buffalo-area services is sending Director of Operations John Hagelburger to serve as logistic chief for The Salvation Army Georgia operations based out of Vidalia, one of the hardest-hit areas.
The logistics chief is responsible for obtaining and managing all resources and equipment necessary to run the disaster relief operation. These critical assets may include vehicles, supplies, in-kind donations and facilities. The logistics chief also coordinates and supervises all logistics personnel, including communications, information technology, transportation, warehousing, and vehicle maintenance specialists.
Currently, five local Salvation Army sites are serving in their home communities in Georgia. As of Sunday, seven canteens are serving meals to those in need in the community, and additionally at six area shelters. More assistance is on the way across the seven southern states affected by this disaster.
