Press Release

On Monday, the board of directors for the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens announced the unanimous appointment of Erin Grajek as interim president and CEO, effective immediately. Grajek has served as the organization’s COO since 2021 and has held progressive leadership roles at the Botanical Gardens since 2006.

This appointment comes after Mark Mortenson, the organization’s beloved president and CEO, passed away Sept. 14.

“Erin has been a trusted leader with the Botanical Gardens, and we are confident in her ability to provide stability and guidance as we navigate the coming weeks and months,” said Tisha Luciani, board chair of the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens. “The board fully supports Erin, and we are all committed to ensuring that the Botanical Gardens remains on a steady course and continues to fulfill its mission.”

Luciani added, “The board is taking thoughtful and deliberate steps in evaluating all available options to lead the organization into its next phase. At this time, no specific timeline has been established. Further details will be communicated, as appropriate.”
