Race runners, walkers and volunteers are actively encouraged to register
Press Release
Buffalo City Mission has announced its inaugural 5K race, the 5K Run for The Homeless, scheduled for Sept. 7 in downtown Buffalo.
This event represents a significant moment as the City Mission's first 5K race, aimed at generating essential funds through participant registrations and sponsorships. Registration is now open for runners and volunteers interested in the race or volunteering at BCM5K.com. The first 100 runners/walkers will receive a free T-shirt.
“Our 5K Run for the Homeless is an exciting community event that embodies the spirit of compassion and generosity that defines our ‘City of Good Neighbors,’ and the passion found within the running community,” said Aubrey Calhoun, Buffalo City Mission CEO and executive director. “Whether you walk, run, or volunteer, we invite everyone to be part of this inaugural event, which directly supports our critical community services and ongoing efforts to uplift those in need.”
The race's proceeds and the funds raised will go directly to support the City Mission's essential community services. These programs include efforts to address food insecurity, emergency shelter, educational programming to address the root causes of homelessness, and restorative services that assist with career development and job-skill training.
The race is set to begin at the Mission’s Alfiero Family Center of Hope and Promise, located at 100 E. Tupper St., Buffalo. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and goes until 8:30 a.m. – with the 5K promptly starting at 9 a.m. sharp. Registration for adults is $35, $25 for students under the age of 18, and free for students 10 years old and younger.
Awards will be presented following the 5K, honoring the top finishers and the teams that raised the highest funds.
