Press Release
The James H. Cummings Foundation, a philanthropic leader in the Buffalo community, has announced a grant of $250,000 to support The Salvation Army’s Hope on Main Emergency Shelter project. This investment will assist The Salvation Army with replacing its family shelter with a new, modern and safe facility for the care of families experiencing homelessness.
Located on Main Street in Buffalo, The Salvation Army’s family shelter has been a lifeline for families for more than 60 years. This vital facility provides safe shelter, nutritious meals, and comprehensive support services while keeping all family members together.
“We are deeply grateful to the James H. Cummings Foundation for their unwavering commitment to our community,” said Maj. Annette Lock, director of The Salvation Army. “The foundation’s generosity brings us closer to a groundbreaking on this new center, allowing us to expand our services and offer essential resources to families seeking stability.”
“We made our first grant to the Salvation Army in 1970 and have been investing in their much-needed services for over 50 years. We are delighted to continue that support,” said Mary Jo Hunt, executive director of the Cummings Foundation. “The Salvation Army’s Hope on Main Emergency Family Shelter will help to address the growing needs of families in our community who are challenged with finding adequate and affordable housing. The wrap around services that will also be co-located in the emergency shelter will further support these families as they work to secure permanent housing.”
The James H. Cummings Foundation’s commitment extends beyond this grant. With a legacy of philanthropy, the foundation continues to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable people and medical research in the Buffalo area; and Henderson, North Carolina; and medical research in Toronto.
