Niagara County Legislator Mike Hill, chairman of the county’s community safety and security committee, reminded residents that time is quickly running out for those who want to take the deputy sheriff/police officer examination.

The application deadline is Aug. 12. The exam will be given Sept. 28.

“For those interested in a career in law enforcement, there are just a couple weeks left to sign up for the civil service exam,” Hill said. “And right now, we are well below the usual number of applications we receive for this exam, which means more opportunity for those who do apply. If you have been thinking about it but just have not yet followed through, I strongly encourage you to do so.”

Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti said a position in the sheriff’s office comes with competitive pay; a state pension; health insurance; and paid leave for vacations, holidays and sick time.

“Beyond the compensation, the real benefit of a career in law enforcement is the satisfaction of serving the community, keeping our residents safe and knowing that you are making a difference every day,” Filicetti said. “I want to be clear there is nothing easy about being a deputy sheriff or police officer, but from my perspective, there is also nothing more rewarding.”

Filicetti said for more information and to apply, go to https://niagara-portal.mycivilservice.com/exams.
