Press Release

Eight Days of Hope (EDOH) Buffalo finished its fifth annual outreach in Buffalo, serving 351 families in the Ellicott District with free home repairs, providing over $1 million of donated work.

This outreach brought together 1,805 volunteers from 37 states and Canada – a Buffalo record for the largest volunteer effort in the city.

“What an amazing week we had in Buffalo! Having a record number of volunteers come to serve the city I love is beyond touching,” said Stephen Tybor III, EDOH president and CEO. “I am grateful for everyone who supported this effort and that, together, we were able to help so many families with home repairs and landscaping.”

Twenty-three families received roof repairs and replacements, and 25 families received lead paint removal and house painting. In addition, families had their porches replaced and windows installed. Over 250 families received landscaping, and two parks in the Ellicott District were rejuvenated.

“Western New York truly came together for this outreach to build a better Buffalo – one house at a time,” EDOH Buffalo Director Kim Lackey said. “As word spread, more people from the area saw the improvements and wanted to get involved. It was thrilling to see this outreach grow and impact even more families than we originally anticipated.”

EDOH Buffalo 2024 brought together over 100 local churches, businesses and nonprofits, including AVA Roofing, Amherst Roofing, Besroi Roofing, Buffalo Roofing, Frank’s Basement Systems, Level Masonry, O’Connor Contracting, ProVia, Rochester Roofing, Stellar Roofing, Stockmohr Home Improvement, and TurkMasters Roofing, among others. EDOH also has two national partners in the area that support this outreach, The Chapel and Revive Wesleyan.
