Press Release

Emmy Award-winning multi-Platinum artist and singer-songwriter Rachel Platten will release her new studio album, “I Am Rachel Platten,” on Sept. 3. A body of work over five years in the making, the album is an artistic journey through peaks and valleys – touching on motherhood, guilt, mourning, expectations, rebirth, mental health and the support systems we all need to guide us through life’s adversities.

Today, as the preorder for “I Am Rachel Platten” launched, Rachel shared “I Know,” one of the first songs she penned for the album. While she initially wrote it as a message of peace to herself in the earliest days of the pandemic, the song reverberates with comfort and hope in the face of adversity. “This pain won’t last, this too shall pass, This too shall pass I know,” she sings.

Of this new body of work, Rachel says; “Seven years have passed since my last album, and in that time, I've gone through a profound transformation. I’ve become a mother and endured a long and incredibly painful battle with my mental health. I fought for my peace and for my husband and my girls, and as I healed and confronted my demons, I found songwriting to be a refuge, often the only one when all hope felt lost.

“This music that emerged tells my story in a way that I’ve never been able to before because these songs weren’t written for anyone else. They were the medicine I needed in the darkest moments of my life. And so, this album is already a triumph, because it helped me save my own life. My hope is that they may be a comfort for others in their own dark nights.”

She previewed some of her new songs in May during a sold-out, two-night stand at The Sun Rose in Los Angeles and at a candlelight concert at St. Ann’s Church in New York City. Rachel also recently performed at Brooklyn’s King Theater (for Women’s History Month for Audacy with Meghan Trainor and Kelsea Ballerini), receiving two standing ovations.

Recorded in Nashville with producers Jason Evigan (Zendaya, Rüfüs du Sol) and Gian Stone (Halsey, Teddy Swims), “I Am Rachel Platten” includes the singles “Bad Thoughts,” which she wrote during an intense struggle with post-partum depression; “Mercy” and “Girls.”

“Girls,” released for Mother’s Day 2023, marked Platten’s first new music since 2017. The song went Top 10 at AC Radio and was hailed by People as “a message of strength for her daughters and women everywhere.” It was a top 10 gainer for 12 weeks in a row at radio. At Spotify alone, “Girls” has been added to over 190,000 personal playlists. In this recent feature article, Romper observed, “I Am Rachel Platten” is “a pop album profoundly shaped by parenthood and all the ways it expands your heart in directions both joyous and painful.”

When the world first met Rachel, it came in the form of a proclamation of self: “Fight Song” became a global sensation, an inescapable battle cry that’s now been streamed more than a billion times and is as inextricable to modern pop culture as any one song could be. An artist as textured and rich as you’ll ever find, Rachel has spent the years since “Fight Song” building a foundation upon which she’s growing a powerful artistic legacy. What sets her apart is not just her captivating performances, but her significant role in the creative process – she is a performer, songwriter and producer on “I Am Rachel Platten,” which will be released on her very own Violet Records.
