Catholic Health Press Release

Catholic Health announced the appointment of Victor A. Filadora, M.D., M.B.A., to the position of chief physician executive. He assumes the post following the departure of Dr. Hans Cassagnol, who left the system earlier this year.

“When we began our search for Catholic Health’s next chief physician executive, it became clear we didn’t have to look far,” Catholic Health President and CEO Joyce Markiewicz said. “Dr. Filadora is a medical executive with nearly 20 years of leadership experience and a deep understanding of the medical needs of the Buffalo and Western New York community.”

In this executive leadership role, Filadora is responsible for medical affairs throughout Catholic Health, working closely with the system’s vice presidents of medical affairs, system medical directors, director of graduate medical education, clinical department chairs, and system director of pharmacy, to ensure the highest standards of medical care across the organization. Among his responsibilities, he will provide executive oversight for regulatory reporting, clinical standardization, and physician and provider recruitment, to support the system’s medical staff.

“I am excited to partner with and learn from the many Catholic Health physicians and providers committed to excellence in patient care,” Filadora said. “Together, we will continue to transform Western New York health care for the better.”

Most recently, Filadora served as a senior vice president for Kaleida Health and president of Great Lakes Cancer Care Collaborative. He began his career as an anesthesiologist at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Massachusetts. He spent 15 years at Roswell, holding a number of leadership positions, including senior vice president/chief of clinical services, clinical chief of perioperative medicine, and associate dean of graduate medical education.

An accomplished physician executive, educator and practitioner, Filadora received his Medical and Master of Science degrees from the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; and his MBA from the UB School of Management. He completed an anesthesia residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. He currently serves as a clinical assistant professor in the department of anesthesia at the Jacobs School of Medicine.

“As we continue our strategic journey to lead the transformation of health care, Dr. Filadora has a track record of success in developing and nurturing collaborative partnerships to improve the health of our community,” Markiewicz added. “We look forward to the important role he will play in strengthening our medical staff and supporting our relationship with Catholic Medical Partners to advance the delivery of health care throughout our system.”
