The Niagara History Center will again be conducting four programs for children this summer. The “History Explorer” series is designed for children ages 7 to 11 and includes crafts, games, stories and other hands-on activities. It will take place on four Wednesdays in July and August, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The following are dates and themes for the programs:

•July 17 – “Summer Olympics 2024” – This international sporting event started in 1896. Learn the history, engage in some of the sporting events, and find out which Western New York athletes have competed in the games. A medal ceremony will take place at the end to the day!

•July 24 – “A Child’s Life During the American Revolution” – Find out what life was like for a child during the Revolutionary War. Participate in activities, play games and do crafts that were common for a child at that time. This includes outdoor and domestic chores as well as recreation.

•July 31 – “250 Years of American Toys and Games” – How did children play in colonial times, the Victorian era or during the baby-boomer years? Make and play with toys and games from each of these time periods. Compare toys/games and choose which generation had the most fun.

•Aug. 7 – “Wacky Weather” – Explore the world of weather, do experiments to learn how certain atmospheric conditions are formed, and find out about the year it snowed in Niagara County during the summer. Make devices to monitor, measure and create weather conditions.

The fee is $25 per child, per program, with $5-off coupons offered by the Town of Lockport Recreation Department for Lockport residents.

For more program information and registration, contact Ann Marie Linnabery at the Niagara History Center at 716-434-7433 or [email protected].
