Obituary: Rebecca D. Henderson

It is with deep sadness that the family of Rebecca Diane Henderson announce her passing following a brief but courageous fight against the insidious thief cancer.

Rebecca and her husband, Timothy, were only one year shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. A life that included a daughter, Kristen, and a son, Ryan, who was tragically killed in 2011 following an accident with a truck from CWM. They also raised their grandson, Charles Anthony Leone III. A second grandson, Daniel William Henderson, recently graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School.

Rebecca was a Scout leader in Canada for over 20 years and, through her quiet but firm disposition and patience, she was able to help usher adolescents into responsible adulthood. It was her quiet demeanor that taught us how to live and her acceptance of her fate that showed us how to die.

There will be no service or prior visitation as per her request. It was her wish to be remembered as if she was still alive. Her one request is that, if there is a family member or friend who has for some reason become distant, contact them and give them a hug – for life is too short not to forgive and grief is love with no place to go.

Special thanks to her lifelong partner in crime Claudia Beane, Mary at Rite Aid, the fifth-floor nursing station and aids at Mount St. Mary's, and to the angels at Niagara Hospice.

Donations in her honor can be sent to www.Scouts.ca or to the amazing staff at Niagara Hospice.

Arrangements entrusted to Hardison Funeral Homes Inc., Lewiston. Please visit www.hardisonfuneralhomes.com.
