Niagara University Press Release
Niagara University’s Levesque Institute for Civic Engagement is hosting a community cookout and conversations for parents and their students attending Niagara Falls High School, Gaskill and LaSalle preparatory schools in the Niagara Falls City School District. The event takes place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, in the Doris W. Jones Resource Center, 3001 Ninth St., Niagara Falls. Lunch will be provided.
Guest speakers Charles Perry and Lisa Fitzpatrick of the Weave Project will share stories, practical advice, and insights about what it means to be a weaver in your community. The Weave Project was founded in 2018 at the Aspen Institute to address the crisis of broken social trust by connecting, supporting and investing in local leaders so they can weave a new, inclusive social fabric where they live.
“We aim to inspire students, engage parents, and encourage attendees to identify assets and strategies to strengthen communities through their involvement,” said Rhonda Bivins-Talley, executive director of the Levesque Institute. “The key goals are to connect families to resources, help attendees recognize their roles as leaders, share stories and strategies for solutions to positively impact community change.”
This event is funded through the support of the Oishei Foundation and is the first in a series of three community conversations.
