Amazon donations are being accepted June 3-July 1
Submitted by the University at Buffalo
With summer vacation right around the corner, school supplies for the fall are the last thing on anyone’s mind right now.
But think again, because donations for the third-annual Jonathan D. Daniels, MD Memorial School Supply Drive: “The Next Generation of Transformational Leaders,” are being accepted June 3 to July 1.
The list of donations is available at this Amazon link.
Daniels, associate director of admissions at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo and a 1998 Jacobs School graduate, died July 4, 2022, along with two of his adult daughters, Jordan and Jensen, in a fire at their north Buffalo home. He was a beloved member of the Buffalo and Jacobs School communities.
Before his death, he had been working with Jacobs School natural sciences interdisciplinary graduate Beatriz González and his team in admissions on organizing a school supplies drive. It was an effort to provide tools for success to children in Buffalo’s underserved neighborhoods.
Each year, the goal is to give away 300 filled backpacks to students in grades K-8 in the eastside neighborhood where Daniels’s pediatric practice was based.
The backpacks will be distributed to neighborhood children from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, July 27, in the parking lot of the Care Medical Practice, 1315 Jefferson Ave., Buffalo. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
