Niagara County Legislator Christopher McKimmie secured $3,500 in Community Partnership Funds to purchase automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for the Niagara Falls Police Athletic League (PAL). A check was presented to Niagara PAL Board President Phil Mohr and Treasurer Joe Maggi at A board meeting on Monday.
McKimmie said, “These AEDs will play a crucial role in safeguarding the health of youth athletes participating in Niagara PAL’s athletic programs. The importance of such devices was underscored by the sudden cardiac arrest of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin during a game on Jan. 2, 2023, an incident that brought nationwide attention to the critical need for early access to CPR and defibrillation.”
This is the second organization McKimmie has assisted in securing funding for AEDs. In March, he also helped St. John De LaSalle Parish acquire an AED for its church, “ensuring that another vital community space is prepared to respond to cardiac emergencies.”
“As a police officer and emergency medical technician, public safety has always been a top priority for me,” McKimmie said. “I’m proud to support initiatives that enhance the safety and well-being of our community. Providing AEDs to organizations like Niagara PAL and St. John De LaSalle Parish is a crucial step in ensuring that our community is equipped to handle emergencies swiftly and effectively.”
