The University at Buffalo’s department of music offers its second annual “Gift to the Community Concert” celebrating the strength and musical diversity of the Buffalo community. Faculty, students and local musical luminaries join together this Mother’s Day for a program of jazz, classical and Afro-Latin music. Admission is free. No ticket required.
The event begins at 3 p.m. May 12 at Lippes Concert Hall, Slee Hall, UB North Campus
Featured artists include vocalists Curtis Lovell, Alex McArthur and incoming UB faculty member and recent Grammy-winner Jeff Scott, along with UB faculty members, bassist Sabu Adeyola, pianists George Caldwell, Eric Huebner and Michael Serio, conductor and baritone Jaman Dunn-Danger, guitarist Colter Harper and student ensembles the UB Friday Band, directed by Jon Nelson and the UB Choro Ensemble, directed by Stephen Guerra.
The UB department of music has a long history of community outreach through music. In the wake of the Tops shooting on May 14, 2022, it has rededicated itself to fostering connections that reach beyond North Campus, regularly featuring members of the musical community on the Slee and Baird Hall stages, and engaging new audiences with diverse musical programming.
