The Lewiston Jazz Festival Inc. board of directors will offer a $1,000 scholarship to an Erie County or Niagara County high school/college student who will begin or continue their music studies as a full-time student at a college or university.

Chairwoman Carol Calato said, “This music scholarship was made possible by the generosity of the late Thomas Burrows, who endowed the festival with $10,000 in 2019, to allow for the continuum of a scholarship through 2028. I am humbled to say that Mr. Burrows has requested that the scholarship be made in my name as a long-time board member and advocate of music education.

“As the chairperson of the board and of the scholarship program, I am asking you to inform your students of the availability of this opportunity. The only requirement is that the student be accepted at a college to study music, or is already enrolled in a college music program. It is not necessary that the student is enrolled in jazz studies. One scholarship winner will be chosen by a committee of qualified judges.

“Please help us spread the word! Past honorees have had the opportunity to perform at the festival.”

The online application and scholarship link can be found at https://www.lewistonjazz.com/scholarship. For more information, contact the Jazz Festival office (c/o the Upward Niagara Chamber of Commerce) at 716-754-9500 or [email protected].
