Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1 has renamed its college scholarship in honor of member Joseph H. Brautman, who passed away in July.
A press release stated, “A member of the Lewiston No. 1 family since 1994, Brautman is missed dearly for his long tenure of volunteer work, warm smile and caring attitude. He served as an emergency medical technician and was active behind the scenes in a number of administrative roles, including as president for many years.”
Lewiston No. 1 President Barry Beebe said, “Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1 has an enormous, vested interest in the community, which we serve. As a result, we invest in the future by supporting educational endeavors within our fire company family.”
“Joe was a beloved English teacher at Lewiston-Porter for many years. He was integral in our annual scholarship committee, and led the review and award of many scholarships over the years. Often times, a student at Lewiston Porter was the recipient of the fire company’s college scholarship.
“It is in Joe’s honor that this scholarship has been renamed the Joseph H. Brautman Memorial Scholarship, and in his memory we will continue to assist young adults in our community pursue higher education in our community.”
