I announced at the dedication of the historical cemetery plaque in May that my next project was to be the placement of another granite bench to be placed next to the historical plaque.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, I was approached about donating a bench. Two are going to be placed on either side of the historical plaque monument. The first is a gift of the Rev. Dr. Joyce Serianni in honor of all Lewiston veterans who have served in all branches of the military – past, present and future. The second is a gift of Joan Dominick Sheusi in memory of her late mother, Berniece Dominick, who passed away at 103 in 2022. Berniece was the oldest resident of Lewiston at the time.

A dedication will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, in the Oakwood section of the cemetery behind the old Presbyterian Church. I am tentatively planning to have an honor guard from the VFW in honor of those who serve or have served in the military, and Pastor Serianni to preside over the blessing and dedication of the benches. This is open to the public, for anyone who wishes to attend the ceremony.

As I continue my stewardship of the cemetery, my next project is to raise donations to be able to plant ornamental trees, in memory of loved ones, to replace those lost to the ravages of time.

I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to those who have donated to my historical projects. Without you, I would never have been able to bring my projects to fruition in honor of Lewiston history.
