Buffalo man receives maximum sentence for fatally injuring his girlfriend's baby

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 21-year-old Nasir Jackson of Buffalo was sentenced yesterday afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to 25 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.

The defendant admitted to recklessly engaging in conduct that caused the death of his girlfriend’s infant son. The crime occurred while the baby was under his care at a hotel room in the Town of Tonawanda. The victim, 7-month-old Ocean Reed, was unresponsive when he was taken to Kenmore Mercy Hospital where he later died from the injuries on Friday, Dec. 10, 2021. The Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the child died from blunt force trauma to his head and neck.

Jackson pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the first degree (class “B” violent felony) on June 23, 2023.

DA Flynn commends Det. Mark Muscoreil and Det. Mark Scranton of the Town of Tonawanda Police Department for their work in this investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Ashley M. Morgan of the felony trials bureau.
