Buffalo Yacht Club was host of charity regatta & gala dinner
The Buffalo Yacht Club hosted the “Sail for Roswell” regatta and gala dinner on Saturday July 8. The event was a sell-out success, raising $165,000 for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center to develop cancer cures and save lives.
The event kicked off with an exhibition sail in front of the Buffalo Yacht Club on Friday, featuring area high school sailing teams. Twenty-five boats raced in the charity regatta on Saturday. Following the regatta, over 250 guests enjoyed a gala dinner, which featured 60 silent auction items, 10 live auction items, and evening entertainment by Joe Bolognese.
The Buffalo Yacht Club, founded in 1860, is the third-oldest yacht club in continuous operation in the U.S. and boasts more than 600 members.
“With the 2023 ‘Sail for Roswell,’ as a club, we are able to join together with our community to support an organization that saved my life,” said Tom Lewin, “Sail for Roswell” organizing chair and cancer survivor. “Through my experience receiving treatment at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, I saw first-hand the wonderful people and spirit of the organization and I can’t think of a better fit for us to support.”
