The Western New York Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will hold an educational program for caregivers who need assistance dealing with challenging behaviors caused by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
The free class, “Understanding and Responding to Dementia Related Behaviors,” will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Delavan Grider Community Center, 877 E. Delavan Ave., Buffalo.
“Behavior is a powerful form of communication and is one of the primary ways for people with dementia to communicate their needs and feelings as the ability to use language is lost,” said Andrea Koch, director of education and training at the WNY chapter. “However, some behaviors can present real challenges for caregivers to manage. This program will help caregivers learn to decode behavioral messages, identify common behavior triggers, and learn strategies to help intervene with some of the most common behavioral challenges.”
Participants can register online at bit.ly/DelGriderJul23 or by calling 800-272-3900.
This program is supported by a grant from the Chur Family Foundation. To learn more about Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, call 800-272-3900 or visit alz.org.
