The Youngstown Garden Club's first ever “Plant-O-Rama,” held June 3 at the Youngstown Village Center, was everything it set out to be: festive and fun with something for everyone to do.
In an effort to engage more people in general – and families in particular – the club reimagined its annual plant sale to include music (Bob & Andrea), food (Youngstown Marketside), and arts and crafts for all ages. This was all in addition to a dozen tables loaded with perennials of all sorts, grown and nurtured by garden club members and a few non-members.
Member experts were on hand to advise buyers on plant choices, and soil testing was available.
The proceeds from the annual plant sale are critically necessary to support the club's work, including civic beautification, educational programming, and charitable donations and scholarships. For these reasons, the club is pleased to report that plant sales increased 25% over last year.
An effort such as this is not possible without a lot of support from the community. The club is grateful to the Village of Youngstown for approving our event and for providing assistance in so many ways from inception to completion. Additionally, we are thankful for the support of the following sponsors and partners:
